The Importance of Mortgage Pre-Approval

One of the first steps in the home buying process is speaking with a lender to see if you can get pre-approved for a mortgage. With the local market still moving relatively quickly, some agents even require pre-approval before you tour a home. Getting pre-approved lets you know if you can get a loan, and how much that loan would be for. This is a great way to find out your budget and set parameters for your home search.

Early in the process, we do recommend comparing a few lenders to find the best rates and programs. Having a pre-approval letter ready from when you submit an offer on a home will work to your advantage in the process. A pre-approval in hand demonstrates that you’ll be able to obtain and close on a loan faster, which is appealing to most sellers. You also do not have to commit to a particular lender until your offer is accepted, but having some options means you won’t have to scramble when it’s time to execute a purchase and sales contract.

The home search process can feel overwhelming, but obtaining pre-approval early will make the experience a lot less stressful. The Chart House Realtors team has established a network of reputable local mortgage lenders who offer great rates and programs. If you’re looking to get started on the pre-approval process, we invite you to check out the list of lenders below.
